CONGRATULATIONS to the Phoenix Cadet Color Guard. They took 2nd overall.

Thank you to everyone who made the Change of Command and the 70th Anniversary of CAP a complete success last week. We had many compliments from Col. Wellman and all of Wing. We appreciate all of your hard work, and dedication to the squadron. It really showed at the Change of Command how dedicated Phoenix Cadets are.

If you are on Facebook, please join the group "Phoenix Cadet Squadron CAP Utah." Also ask your parents to join the group. This will be another way we can get information out and post events of the squadron.

On line testing is always available. Call a fellow cadet today and make sure they are coming to the meeting. Remember, you never know when we will have another drawing for a prize of those who post on the blog.

Announcements for the week of 31 Oct through 4 Nov 2011:

If you have come down off your sugar rush, here's the latest-

1. NHQ is in a budget crisis right now, due to a congressional funding shortfall. There will be no O Flights, and few activities above the Squadron level for the time being. When the budget is eventually funded, everything will return to normal. Most of you don't need to worry about this, as our unit will press on as normal. Until the budget is funded however, books, manuals and other training materials will not be sent to new members, and uniforms will not be issued through the NHQ New Cadet Uniform Help Program.

2. DID YOU KNOW...if you have achieved the Goddard Award AND you have your model rocketry badge, you should place a single silver star device on your Goddard ribbon. See CAPM 39-1, Awards and Decorations.

3. When O Flights resume, all cadets should have viewed the Aircraft Ground Handling video, and have successfully passed the quiz which follows.
The video training is located on e services, after logging in, look in the left column, "CAP Utilities", and click on "Multimedia." Select "video courses" then select "view video" from the pull-down menu on the right under "video options".
Watch the video carefully, then take the quiz at the end. You should print, or save the certificate of completion when you have passed the quiz. I watched it last week, there are no trick questions, and the video was only a few minutes long. You can re start the video all you want, and you may download it if you would like.
If you want to fly, you need to take and pass the quiz. You only have to do it once. The results will be recorded by NHQ automatically, but bring in a copy of the certificate for your file, or keep it safe at home, just in case you ever need to prove you did it, so you won't have to do it again.

4: Forwarded message from Maj Jeager, Wing Cadet Programs:

Short notice request:

I need 4 cadets or senior members to travel with me to Mars on Saturday the 5th.
We will be painting the inside of the Mars research facility.

Departure will be at 0700 from the Wing building
Returning late on Saturday evening.

This is to render service to the Mars Desert Reserch Facility

-If you think you would like to assist, get your parent's ok, NOW, and e mail or call your chain of command. This is all the information we have at this time, if anyone would like to volunteer, we need to know ASAP and inform Maj Jeager. Plan for civilian dress, painting clothes, and bring food / water.

5: The Wing Cadet Competition is still scheduled for Sat, 3 Dec. We would encourage our squadron to turn out that day to support our color guard team, Cadets and Seniors. Uniform of the day for spectator Cadets is blues, the nicest you have. Seniors with blues may wear them, or your polo shirt and gray slacks, or business attire.

6: Our fund raising this year has begun. If you would like to sell vouchers for hockey tickets, you must have your parent's permission, and you may obtain vouchers from Lt Nielson. If you would like to do so, make a note when you sign in on the blog. This has been a good fund raiser for the unit in the past, and pays for good things when we have needed money. Lets all support our unit.

PT NIGHT - August 25, 2011

On line testing always available. Make sure you post on the blog. The response has been great, but we can do better.

Phoenix Cadet Squadron - Second to None

*****Update to Blog******

Special Cords (Blue and Gold) are authorized to wear by Col. Wellman for Academic Excellence. The requirments that have to be met in order to wear the Academic Excellence Cord is a 3.5 or higher GPA. Each term the cadet will have to provide proof of the 3.5 or higher GPA in order to continue to wear the Academic Excellence Cord.

At this point, any cadet can bring in proof of a 3.5 or higher GPA for the last term of last year and would be authorized to wear the cord until report cards come out again for this school year.

The squadron still needs to order the cords, and we do not have any in stock at this point, but we would like to have a good head count of how many to order. We will hopefully have the cost of the cords at the next meeting.

We (Sr. Staff) are excited to see the number of cords in our squadron and to see how many of you can achieve this goal.

Safety Message on Tour night

Tour Tonight
Safety Officer Message:
Below is a list of those who are not in Safety Compliance by 3pm July 7th. Because there is a tour scheduled (see previous blog), all attendees are required to be in compliance by departure time! So . . . those who need to complete these safety requirements may do so before 6pm by logging onto the gocivilairpatrol.com site.

Go to “already a member” at the bottom of the page; and then choose “eServices”. Scroll down to Online Safety Education and click on that.
Once you do this, you may take any one of the Monthly Safety Education Courses you have not yet taken, which take approximately 20 minutes. You must pass with 80% or better or retake it until you do. You will need to sign up for an account if you haven’t done that yet. All members are expected to have an account.
For those who are listed on Introduction to Safety, follow the directions above, but after clicking on Online Safety Education, find the course Introduction to CAP Safety. That one may take a little longer and you must pass with 80% or better. If not, retake it until you do.
Be sure to click on the appropriate box at the end of each test or it will not be recorded and you will need to retake it!

Obviously is always easier to attend Safety Education in the Unit. Call me asap if have questions, 801 556-8685.

Safety Briefings and Introduction to Safety Requirement

Aerospace Night  Uniform of the day is BDU

We have 8 slots for glider flights for the weekend, 4 June 2011. This will be a first come first serve activity see Lt. Coffman if you would like to go flying.

Boards and Drill test are available, remember all testing is done on-line now.

A few of you have not completed the Safety requirements according to regulation. Check your personal information on eServices (gocivilairpatrol.com) to see if you are "Not in Compliance".

If not--regs say you can only come to the next meeting to get into compliance. I will be there to help you learn how, but we can't do it for you. Taking the Intro to Safety on line is a lot easier than trying to take the written test. The Testing Officer must set up a time for you to be tested also. Since you need to have a passing score of 80%, you may need to take it more than once. You can take it on line as many times as you need to. Once you pass it, be sure to check the box for it to be "recorded", it won't be saved or recorded otherwise and you will have to start over.

If you need a Safety Education, please take it online as well. There are several short and simple Safety Education courses which will take just a few minutes.

Safety is a priority this year, and all members have been asked to comply. If you see an unsafe situation, please pass it up the chain of command or directly to any safety officer or the Unit Commander. Any kind of injury, slight or otherwise, must be report immediately. We also have a Cadet Safety Officer now. Please check with any Safety Officer for questions.

I am out of town until June 1st, but you can email me at susanhkc7@gmail.com with questions or for help. I'm currenly out of phone range.
