PRICE FTX Information and SIGN UP

The Price, Weber Minuteman Winter FTX will be Friday, 10 Jan through Sunday 12 Jan.

THIS POST IS THE SIGN UP, leave a comment to sign up for this FTX.
Check back here, THIS POST will be updated as we get closer.

DO NOT sign up for this if you won't be able to go. CHECK WITH YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS BEFORE you put your name down.

If your family is already planning on your going, you may sign up now.

Before arriving on the 10th, you must be safety current, and bring a CAPF-31, filled out completely.

Phoenix Squadron will be meeting at the West Jordan Armory between 1600 to 1630 on Friday, 10 Jan. We expect to return to the armory on Sunday, 12 Jan by or about 1400. Everyone should plan on calling their rides when we leave to confirm. (LET YOUR RIDE IN ON THIS INFORMATION NOW!)

INFORMATION POINTS:

1. The FTX will be held in Price, Utah. This will be winter / cold weather survival training, as well as CAP Emergency Services qualifications. This will be at the Price airport, at the Price squadron HQ, which is an aircraft hanger. There is heat and proper facilities available at the hanger.

2. As in past years, the first night will be spent inside. You may bring a cot if you would like.

On the second night, volunteers only will sleep outside for the "Iron Man" portion. No one who does not wish to participate in the outside overnight will be required to do so.

Those that do, will only be allowed to do so if their sleeping bag is cold weather rated, and they have proper equipment as listed on the packing list. There is usually some extra bags and other equipment, and we will outfit as far as we are able. No one with inadequate equipment will be allowed to sleep outside. Cadets will be partnered at least 2 of the same gender per tent, Cadets will not use a tent by themselves.

3. Phoenix Squadron will provide transportation to and from for our members.

4. There will be a small cost per person for food of $30.00. Plan for this cost NOW. BRING EXACT CASH AMOUNT WITH YOU. Do not show up with a $50 or a $100 and want change. While you will get change, it may take time, and it slows the in process.

5. This will be a multiple Squadron activity. Uniform is BDUs, you will need an Air Force BDU flat top cover (hat). NO BLACK SQUADRON HATS WILL BE WORN. Appx $6 at General Army Navy on Redwood road, or from the Vanguard web site. Also $6 from the Wing supply.

6. A full packing / equipment list is at the bottom of this post.

7. You will need thermal undergarments, color and style of the bottoms do not matter. Tops should be black, or any military solid color (brown, olive green). If the top is any other color, then plan on wearing an extra black crew next T-shirt over your thermals.

8. You will need a coat. CAP regulations allow for either the old 4 pocket BDU field Jacket, or the BDU Goretex jacket. If you do not have, and or family can not afford either of these right now, then you may wear any cold weather coat you have. Hoodies ARE NOT coats. We will be spending significant time outside, you must have an actual coat.

9. Water resistant warm gloves, and extra thermal or warm socks.

10.   You will need a COLD WEATHER RATED sleeping bag. If you are not sure if your bag is RATED, bring it to the next meeting on the 9th, and have your staff check it. Along with a RATED sleeping bag, you should have a ground mat, to put it on.

Any questions between now and then, may be relayed to your Cadet Staff.

If your parent or guardian has a question or concern, they may call or e mail Maj Cook at any time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Item 1: Huck A Puck Fund Raising:
This years' fund raising has begun. All cadets are encouraged to obtain a permission slip to be signed by your parent or guardian. You will then be issued vouchers to sell. UNDERSTAND, you / your family will be responsible for those vouchers, if lost, you are responsible to pay for them. If you don't sell them all, you can turn them in at no cost to you.

This has been a good fund raiser for our unit every year, so see Lt Nielsen for slips and vouchers and support our squadron.
Item 2: Winter FTX.
There will be two (2) winter FTXs this year. The first will be 10 January. This will be sponsored by Weber Minuteman, and is the FTX we usually attend in Wendover. This year it will take place in Price. More will be posted as details are announced.
The second will be in February, dates to be determined. This one is sponsored by and in Cashe Valley, and will include building snow caves and winter survival. More will be posted as details are announced.
Item 3: The Squadron year end banquet will again be held at the Friends of Eagles reception hall, and is being scheduled for February. Stay tuned for more details as they are posted. You need your best blues uniform. Any cadet may wear a tie, and service coat if you have one for the banquet.
Item 4: Desert Hawk XII Encampment has been scheduled for 14-21 Jun 2014. There is not yet any info on staff applications or cost. Encampment is usually at least/between $100 to $150 so plan and start saving now. More information to come.
Item 5: NCSAs. The National Cadet Special Activities have already begun announcing for 2014. Starting on 1 December, all of the NCSAs will be on e services for applications, and payments. Check out the NCSAs now, and get ready to apply between 1 Dec and 15 Jan, so NOT A LOT OF TIME TO DECIDE TO APPLY.

STANDING ORDERS / INFORMATION
1. If you are ready for a drill test, a milestone written test, a speech or a review board, you must log in right here PRIOR to Wednesday at 1700 hours and let us know what you need. There will not be time to schedule these on Thursday when you arrive for the meeting. On line testing (Leadership and Aerospace Tests) must be completed before a drill test will be given.
The PT test for your next promotion can be taken on any PT meeting.

On line tests, PT and drill tests (as applicable), speeches or SDAs must be completed prior to requesting a promotion board. The board is the LAST step before completing any achievement.

2. If you need anything from supply, to place an order, need uniform parts, you should arrive at 1830. All such requests should be made before the meeting.

3.  BDU UNIFORMS! Boots, pant, blouse and BDU flat top cover, are available through the Wing. Utah Wing has purchased a number of various sizes, and are making those uniforms available to the membership.
You can get a full set for $20 total. If you need a full uniform, or if you need one or two of those four parts, let the command staff know what you need ASAP.
Individual uniform parts are $6.00 a piece (which is anything less than all four parts). We will need to notify the Wing staff what we need. This is not a retail situation, where you can show up at the Wing building anytime, and buy stuff, so we need to do some arranging, but this will not be difficult, nor will it have to take a long time, so figure out what you need, and put a list together now.
Sizes are not guaranteed, but chances are we can get you outfitted. If you already have a uniform, you can still buy a new set, and then you will have a set for squadron, and a set you can wear for FTXs. There is no rule that says you can't take advantage of this opportunity just because you already have a set. There is no rule which limits 1 set per member either.
These uniforms are new or used but good condition. JUMP ON THIS NOW. If this program works well, the Wing may continue, and buy more next year. If no one needs uniforms, and the Wing is stuck with all those uniforms, they will likely not do this again. Its not free, but you will not see a full set of uniforms in this good condition for this little money again.
