Before arriving on the 10th, you must be safety current, and bring a CAPF-31, filled out completely.
Phoenix Squadron will be meeting at the West Jordan Armory between 1600 to 1630 on Friday, 10 Jan. We expect to return to the armory on Sunday, 12 Jan by or about 1400. Everyone should plan on calling their rides when we leave to confirm. (LET YOUR RIDE IN ON THIS INFORMATION NOW!)
INFORMATION POINTS:
1. The FTX will be held in Price, Utah. This will be winter / cold weather survival training, as well as CAP Emergency Services qualifications. This will be at the Price airport, at the Price squadron HQ, which is an aircraft hanger. There is heat and proper facilities available at the hanger.
2. As in past years, the first night will be spent inside. You may bring a cot if you would like.
On the second night, volunteers only will sleep outside for the "Iron Man" portion. No one who does not wish to participate in the outside overnight will be required to do so.
Those that do, will only be allowed to do so if their sleeping bag is cold weather rated, and they have proper equipment as listed on the packing list. There is usually some extra bags and other equipment, and we will outfit as far as we are able. No one with inadequate equipment will be allowed to sleep outside. Cadets will be partnered at least 2 of the same gender per tent, Cadets will not use a tent by themselves.
3. Phoenix Squadron will provide transportation to and from for our members.
4. There will be a small cost per person for food of $30.00. Plan for this cost NOW. BRING EXACT CASH AMOUNT WITH YOU. Do not show up with a $50 or a $100 and want change. While you will get change, it may take time, and it slows the in process.
5. This will be a multiple Squadron activity. Uniform is BDUs, you will need an Air Force BDU flat top cover (hat). NO BLACK SQUADRON HATS WILL BE WORN. Appx $6 at General Army Navy on Redwood road, or from the Vanguard web site. Also $6 from the Wing supply.
6. A full packing / equipment list is at the bottom of this post.
7. You will need thermal undergarments, color and style of the bottoms do not matter. Tops should be black, or any military solid color (brown, olive green). If the top is any other color, then plan on wearing an extra black crew next T-shirt over your thermals.
8. You will need a coat. CAP regulations allow for either the old 4 pocket BDU field Jacket, or the BDU Goretex jacket. If you do not have, and or family can not afford either of these right now, then you may wear any cold weather coat you have. Hoodies ARE NOT coats. We will be spending significant time outside, you must have an actual coat.
9. Water resistant warm gloves, and extra thermal or warm socks.
10. You will need a COLD WEATHER RATED sleeping bag. If you are not sure if your bag is RATED, bring it to the next meeting on the 9th, and have your staff check it. Along with a RATED sleeping bag, you should have a ground mat, to put it on.
Any questions between now and then, may be relayed to your Cadet Staff.
If your parent or guardian has a question or concern, they may call or e mail Maj Cook at any time.
