We will be doing our Moral Leadership meeting this week. The uniform is Blues. Testing as always is open from 6:30 PM, and Review Boards are available from 7:25 - 7:40 for cadats needing them.

Service Project

It was a cold but sunny Saturday morning on January 3rd, but four really tough cadets, one parent and two leaders showed up to removed wreaths from the Veterans' Cemetary in Bluffdale after Wreaths Across America ran its course. The group had to probe and dig for many, and found about half the number placed on that December morning. Because of a White-out at that time, few could remember where the wreaths had been placed, which required a lot more searching for removals. Apparently the Cemetary must remove those wreaths because of machinery and other constraints.

There will be another day set aside to collect the rest of the wreaths as soon as weather permits. Cadets can receive service ribbons for participating in this kind of Wing Project. Kudos to cadets Stewart, Mount, Olivares and Daily for braving it, and to Stephanie Mount for much appreciated support.

TO ALL THOSE CADETS AND SENIORS PLANNING TO ATTEND,

We are very excited to have other hands on opportunity for cadets, and any seniors who wish to participate. My thanks to the many senior members from all the squadrons who have volunteered to help us put this on! The focus of this FTX is ground search and rescue certification. Cadets from all squadrons are welcome to attend, but please confirm your plans to attend with your squadron commander or myself by January 8th at the very latest. We must know numbers in advance so the correct amount of food, cots, and tents can be obtained.

When: January 16-18th, arrive Friday evening, leave Sunday afternoon

Where: Hot Springs Camper World, Plymouth, Utah (just north of Tremonton)
We will provide tents and cots. There are indoor showers and restrooms. We will have access to the hot spring pools and hot tubs, so though it is sure to be cold, we will have the opportunity to warm up.

What: Ground Search and Rescue training and certification. This will be taught by Capt. Phippen with the assistance of Cadets who have completed their ground team certifications already. Please Try to complete your 101 card prior to this event. Ask your squadron Commander for assistance if you have not yet completed this. All cadets must bring a form 31 (a CAP permission slip) signed by their parents!

Transportation to and From: Please make arrangements with others from your squadron to travel together to and from this event. Please let us know when you plan to arrive. We will send a map quest attachment with directions to Hot Springs.

Winter FTX’s can be COLD!!!! We should have a lot of fun, but being prepared is essential to staying warm and having a good experience. Below is the list of items each cadet should pack. Please have the highest ranking officer/NCO check all packs prior to leaving for the camp ground!!!



1. Form 31

2. WARM COAT (It does not have to be a uniform coat, but we do suggest that you spray the coat with a water repellant)

3. Warm winter gloves (sprayed with a water repellant is good)

4. Warm boots meant for the snow (again these do not have to be uniform boots)

5. 1 extra pair of shoes in case your boots get too wet

6. A stocking cap- preferably black

7. BDU uniform / If you have snow pants you may wear them instead

8. 1 set of long underwear (have it on!)

9. 6 pair warm socks (wear two at a time), 2 pair underwear

10. Swim suite, towel and wash cloth

11. Black turtleneck t-shirt for under BDU’s (optional) and extra t-shirts

12. Hygiene Items: Shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, blow dryer etc.

13. Sleeping Bag: rated for below 32 degrees and one or two extra blankets

14. Pillow

15. Sweats to sleep in

16. Hot Hands- hand and foot warmers- enough for the weekend

17. Pack of cards and a snack

18. A fold up chair to sit in (sitting on the ground would be cold!)

19. 24 Hour Gear: I will be attaching a complete list. It takes some time and money to get all of your gear and we do not expect that you will have every thing at this training event. We are attaching the complete list of items for those who are able to get them all. For those who can not, please bring at least the items we are listing below. If we ever go on an actual ground search and rescue mission, you will be required at that time to have ALL GEAR. For this event have at least:
-a canteen and small back pack, or a camelback pack
-101card (print from the computer) and CAP ID card, and 101 Ground Team Work Sheet-print from Cap.gov
-personal first aid kit
- Ground and U.D.F. Team Task Guide (You can purchase this for $6.90 on the Vanguard web sight. You can get there by going to cap.gov, and then go to Vanguard/Cap mart on the menu. From there go under CAP, then books and training, then Task guides and log books) Let us know if you have any trouble finding this.
- Reflective vest (these can be quite pricey, any orange vest will due for this training)
-2 light sticks
-lip balm and sunscreen
-sunglasses (snow can be bright!)
- Poncho (not the disposable kind)
-Whistle
-signal mirror
-pencil and a pad of paper to write notes on and non mechanical sharpener
- Any personal medication (let staff know about this at check in)
- Compass ( lensetic preferred)
-interview forms (download off of cap.gov)
Flagging tape
Flashlight (with red or blue lenses preferred you can put red cellophane over the regular lense if you can’t find one of these).
One large Leaf size trash bag

Service Project Saturday Jan 3

Our Squadron is helping to clean up wreaths at the Veteran Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, Jan 3. The uniform will be BDUs. We will meet at the Squadron Building at 09:30 and carpool to the Veterans cemetery. We will be there for about an hour and will then return to the Squadron building. See you there!
