NEW BLOG

The Squadron has begun its own web page!

Go to http://phoenixcadetsquadronutah.weebly.com

since the site is so new, you may have to copy this address, and paste it into the browser, but it is there. Remember to add to your favorites!

This blog will remain for the archive, however the new site has its own blog capability. The weekly Squadron blog post is now separate from activity sing ups.

Please note, that comments will have to be approved by the site manager, so they may not appear immediately, so be patient.

Go over, check it out, look around.

The new site is still a work in progress, and we are open to member suggestions.

Please send in digital photos of your last promotion if you have one.

Item 3:  DESERT HAWK XII:
Cadet applications still being accepted, get your paperwork in now.
Scroll down to check out the last few weeks blogs for further info on encampment. If you have not been to an encampment, get your applications in now. You can not become a cadet officer, and there are some national activities you can not attend if you have not first had an encampment credit.

Item 4: Spring / Summer Phoenix FTX:
Presently scheduled for 22-24 August 2014. Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. More details and sign up to come.

Item 5
: GLIDER FLIGHT INSTRUCTION:

If you want to check into this opportunity, check with your Squadron staff.
Here's a chance to get flight training in a glider. This ground school is being taught by the Utah Soaring Association, the local affiliate chapter of the Soaring Society of America (SSA). Many of the members of the CAP Glider Flight are also CFI-Glider in the SSA, and this program will be taught by several of our CAP Instructor Pilots. There will be a deep discount for CAP members, estimated to be $50-$75. Didn't get selected for a NCSA Flight Academy, couldn't fit the scheduling, or maybe the costs with transportation were just beyond reach? Following this ground school, we can work with you right here at Cedar Valley on flight training leading to a Solo Pilot aeronautical rating. Both Cadets and Senior Members are welcome to participate in this opportunity.

JOHN S. KIRKLAND, Lt Col, CAP
Commander, UT-079 Glider Flight

Subject: Air Force Association / CAP Event March 13 and April 12.

Good evening,

The Air Force Association, Salt Lake City Chapter 236 is inviting you to our Air Force One Presentation on Thursday March 13, 1900, at the University of Utah. (Please see map, on page 2 of the .pdf flyer)
University of Utah, HPER East Building, room 206.
This is the Colonel Mark Tillman, USAF (Ret) presentation when he was President George W. Bush (43) Air Force One pilot.
He will be talking about this years as an Air Force One pilot

The three highlights of this presentation is:
-  When he flew President Bush to Uganda/Africa
-  When he flew President Bush on the day of 9/11 around the country without knowing what was going on.
-  When he flew for the first time a sitting President into a war zone, Iraq on Thanksgiving 2003.

Welcome.
Please let us know if you are planning to attend. Thank you.

STANDING ORDERS / INFORMATION
1. PROMOTION:
If you are ready for a drill test, a milestone written test, a speech or a review board, you must log in right here PRIOR to Wednesday at 1700 hours and let us know what you need. There will not be time to schedule these on Thursday when you arrive for the meeting. On line testing (Leadership and Aerospace Tests) must be completed before a drill test will be given.
The PT test for your next promotion can be taken on any PT meeting.

On line tests, PT and drill tests (as applicable), speeches or SDAs must be completed prior to requesting a promotion board. The board is the LAST step before completing any achievement.

2. SUPPLY
If you need anything from supply, to place an order, need uniform parts, you should arrive at 1830. All such requests should be made before the meeting.

3.  BDU UNIFORMS!
Boots, pant, blouse and BDU flat top cover, are available through the Wing. Utah Wing has purchased a number of various sizes, and are making those uniforms available to the membership.
You can get a full set for $20 total. If you need a full uniform, or if you need one or two of those four parts, let the command staff know what you need ASAP.
Individual uniform parts are $6.00 a piece (which is anything less than all four parts). We will need to notify the Wing staff what we need. This is not a retail situation, where you can show up at the Wing building anytime, and buy stuff, so we need to do some arranging, but this will not be difficult, nor will it have to take a long time, so figure out what you need, and put a list together now.
Sizes are not guaranteed, but chances are we can get you outfitted. If you already have a uniform, you can still buy a new set, and then you will have a set for squadron, and a set you can wear for FTXs. There is no rule that says you can't take advantage of this opportunity just because you already have a set. There is no rule which limits 1 set per member either.
These uniforms are new or used but good condition. JUMP ON THIS NOW. If this program works well, the Wing may continue, and buy more next year. If no one needs uniforms, and the Wing is stuck with all those uniforms, they will likely not do this again. Its not free, but you will not see a full set of uniforms in this good condition for this little money again.
4: FTX PROCEDURE
Before Phoenix cadets will attend any FTX, there will be an equipment check on the Thursday meeting just before that FTX. Anyone planning on attending will be required to bring all of their equipment to that meeting for inspection. That equipment will then be secured by the squadron until arrival at the FTX.
All FTX form 31s' and monies will be collected by the squadron at the Thursday meeting as well.

Phoenix is Second To None!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Item 1: UTWG Cadet Competition / Warrior Challenge:
ALL SQUADRONS:
Utah Wing Cadet Competition is scheduled to be held April 25-26 at the John Browning Armory in South Ogden.

It will be called the Utah Wing Warrior Challenge because in addition to the cadet competition there will be competitions that individual cadets, or small teams, can participate in such as:

State Wide individual drill down, Mile Run, LRC Course, Ribbon Rack Challenge, Wright Brothers Challenge.  Color Guard teams will participate in their competition, in accordance with NCC Rules as usual, and in the Warrior challenge as they are able to.

Cadets not on a Color Guard will get to participate in the Warrior Challenge events and watch and support their color guard.  More details are to come in the near future.   Color Guard teams need not be perfect.  This is an excellent year to come and learn without a lot of pressure, because there is no Region or National competition.  Experienced color guard members will be there to review with your team, strategies for improving for the next year.  Come and have fun!

Senior members, we will need support those two days.  Please give some thought as to whether you could help. Please set this date aside and Color Guard teams contact the project officer  Captain Alison Carlisi 801-771-8878 to let us know your intention to be there.

A sign up will be posted when exact dates are determined.

Item 5
: Huck A Puck Fund Raising:
This years' fund raising continues. All cadets are encouraged to obtain a permission slip to be signed by your parent or guardian. You will then be issued vouchers to sell. UNDERSTAND, you / your family will be responsible for those vouchers, if lost, you are responsible to pay for them. If you don't sell them all, you can turn them in at no cost to you.

This has been a good fund raiser for our unit every year, so see Lt Nielsen for slips and vouchers and support our squadron.
